DESCRIPTION OF PBA

What is PBA?

PBA is an organization that reviews boating laws on behalf of Pennsylvania's boating public. It informs boating clubs & boat owners of possible problems from new laws in Pennsylvania, bordering states and the nation.

PBA'S members and elected officials are entirely made up of volunteers and have no paid executive staff. It is the only statewide organization representing boaters from waterways in every County of the Commonwealth.

PBA is your voice in boating and its quarterly newsletter is appropriately called "THE VOICE. OF BOATING" It is filled with local information, proposed legislation and administrative actions which affect your boating in PA and the nation.

Why was PBA formed?

PBA was born in the heat of crisis under threat of adverse boating legislation. The legislation seemed to be motivated more by the prospect of collecting fees and imposing restrictive regulations, rather than trying to aid the boater. PBA achieved defeat of this initial proposal and drafted substitute legislation which provided for:

(1) A separate boating administration within the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

(2) Boating revenues to be earmarked for the benefit of boating.

(3) Experienced boaters to have voice in administration of the law.
